The Missing Piece in Chronic Pain Management

Anyone living with chronic pain knows it’s much more than just some occasional twinges of discomfort. In fact, it can affect nearly every part of daily life, including sleep, energy, concentration, and relationships.

Finding the right treatment for chronic pain can be difficult as well. Many of our patients have expressed their frustrations to us: how they’ve been told their imaging looks “normal” or that they can’t be experiencing pain because there’s no clear injury.

If that sounds familiar, you found the right place. At Moore Myoworx, we understand that chronic pain is real, exhausting, and often misunderstood. Our goal is to help you get back to being you through personalized care that supports healing, function, and long-term relief.

A Deeper Dive Into Chronic Pain

When most people talk about pain, they’re usually referring to acute pain, the discomfort you experience after something gets injured in your body. It’s essentially an alarm system that lets you know something’s wrong. For example, the pain after a sprained ankle is alerting you that the ligament is damaged and needs attention.

Chronic pain works differently.

The main distinction between chronic and acute pain is that acute pain will fade as the underlying damage heals. Chronic pain persists even when there’s no damage, largely due to changes in the nervous system.

Essentially, the nervous system becomes more sensitive, and as a result, the body stays in a protective “high alert” state even though tissues have healed. That’s why imaging might look normal–but you’re still in pain.

Additional Factors in Chronic Pain

However, chronic pain is complex, and increased nerve sensitivity isn’t the only factor at play. Other contributors include:

  • Increased muscle guarding and tension
  • Reduced blood flow
  • Changes in how the brain processes pain signals
  • Stress responses that keep symptoms active
  • Ongoing inflammation
  • Poor sleep and reduced activity due to pain

This is why chronic pain is more complex than a simple injury. Pain might move around between body parts, and you’ll often find yourself dealing with exhaustion or brain fog, too.

What Helps with Chronic Pain Relief?

A condition as complex as chronic pain requires a complex treatment solution. At Moore Myoworx, we take a whole-body approach to care that considers how your nervous system, muscles, movement patterns, and more may all contribute to ongoing symptoms.

We focus our care on helping you:

  • Feel safer moving again
  • Improve daily function
  • Reduce pain sensitivity
  • Build strength and confidence
  • Return to meaningful activities

We also understand that every patient’s experience is different, which is why we draw on several treatment techniques to create customized care plans tailored to your symptoms and goals.

Treatment Techniques We Use To Address Chronic Pain

Manual Therapy

Various hands-on treatments can help reduce stiffness, improve mobility, and calm the nerves to help decrease muscle tension, preparing your body for more active care.

Nervous System Regulation

Because the nervous system plays a major role in chronic pain, we’ll help you develop strategies to reduce stress and improve sleep. This might include breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, or gradual movement exposure, depending on your needs.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy focuses on muscles, nerves, and movement patterns to help the body move more efficiently, which can calm irritated nerves and decrease protective muscle guarding.

Targeted Exercise

Regular physical activity is important for long-term recovery, although we understand that it can be difficult when you have chronic pain. However, our team always starts at a level you’re comfortable with and gradually increases intensity as you improve your strength and endurance.

Better Understanding of Your Condition

We find that our patients often feel more hopeful when they understand what is happening in their bodies. When you understand that hurt does not always mean harm, your brain starts to feel safe, and the pain naturally starts to fade. We’ll help you understand the reason for your symptoms and how healing occurs. That way, you can feel more proactive and empowered in your care.

The Role of Inflammation in Chronic Pain

Inflammation is your body’s natural response to injury or irritation. In the short term, it plays an important role in healing by increasing blood flow and sending helpful cells to the affected area. This process can cause redness, swelling, warmth, and discomfort, but it is often a normal part of recovery.

The problem begins when inflammation lingers longer than it should.

Chronic inflammation can keep the body in a prolonged state of irritation, contributing to ongoing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. Unlike acute inflammation, which resolves as the body heals, chronic inflammation may continue to affect muscles, joints, and nerves for weeks, months, or even years. This is often a contributing factor in conditions like arthritis, persistent back pain, tendon irritation, and other chronic pain disorders.

Inflammation can also increase the sensitivity of your nervous system. Over time, this can cause the body to become more reactive to pain signals, making discomfort feel more intense or harder to resolve. This is one reason why chronic pain often requires a more comprehensive approach than simply masking symptoms.

At Moore MyoWorx, specialized therapy focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying factors that may be contributing to ongoing inflammation and pain. Through personalized therapy techniques, movement-based treatment, and hands-on care, treatment is designed to support the body’s natural healing process and improve long-term function.

There are also everyday habits that can help reduce inflammation, including regular movement, quality sleep, stress management, staying hydrated, and eating a balanced diet rich in whole foods.

If pain has become part of your daily life, it may be time to look beyond temporary relief. Understanding the role inflammation plays in chronic pain is an important step toward finding lasting solutions. With the right care and a personalized treatment plan, it is possible to calm irritation, restore mobility, and help your body move toward healing.
