Concussions & Baseball

Athletes who return to play without allowing their brain to heal first may be setting themselves up for serious long-term consequences…

Youth Baseball Concussion Recovery - Colorado

We understand the passion and dedication baseball and softball players have for the game. We’re equally passionate about helping athletes who suffer from the effects of a concussion.

Every concussion is unique and and so are we. We prioritize your overall well-being and your return to play, using evidence-based protocols to guide your recovery every step of the way.

Moore MyoWorx is Denver’s beacon of hope in concussion treatment and we’ve welcomed football players from all over the country, providing a dedicated and successful treatment course where traditional methods have seen little effect. While concussions may not be as prevalent in baseball and softball as other sports, our youth baseball and softball players can often suffer from a concussion while playing another sport. Consider these stats:

  • A study analyzed 54,978 concussion injuries in baseball and softball, with the average age of injury being 13.1 years old. The majority of concussions were caused by head-to-ball injuries (63%), followed by head-to-player (15.5%), head-to-surface (9.7%), and head-to-bat (9.3%).

  • In 2018–2019, 4,857 concussions occurred in high school baseball, which is 9.2% of all baseball injuries. About half of these concussions happened while fielding, and 26% occurred when a player was hit by a pitch while batting.

  • Girls Softball (#5) and Boys Baseball (#9) both rank in the top 10 for number of concussions from high school athletes.

  • A study by Erin Wasserman found that within two weeks of returning from a concussion, batting average declined by 31 points, slugging percentage decreased by 62 points and on-base plus slugging percentage dropped by 99 points.

Concussion Success Stories

“If someone is suffering from PCS, I cannot encourage them enough to come to Moore MyoWorx. The first day I walked in, I could barely talk, I was incoherent, I was in so much pain. Now, I am more coherent, really doing great, and almost completely symptom-free.”

My son experienced post-concussion symptoms for 5 months. The PCP was less than helpful. Local children’s-focused hospital was only helpful for the psychology portion. Moore Myoworx was recommended by one of his teachers. They are thoughtful, thorough, helpful! He is already so much better!”

Effective Concussion Treatment: Get Back to Being You!

Our concussion treatment is the only approach that alleviates all four categories of concussion symptoms: Cognitive, Physical, Emotional and Sleep.

The "Return to Play" guidelines do not guarantee that your player is "healed" and ready for competition.

Here’s why our treatment approach is different:

  1. We include cognitive, vision, balance, strength and ROM testing

  2. We focus on a high frequency, short duration treatment protocol that gets quicker results

  3. Our treatment hands the power back to the individual and treatment team (including athletic trainers and your primary care provider)

  4. We prepares athletes to return to the field but also be more resilient in the future.

Our approach is evidence-based and has enabled 89% of our clients to reclaim their lives from the shadows of concussion including the following symptoms:

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Dizziness and balance problems

  • Fatigue that isn’t alleviated by rest

  • Difficulty with memory and concentration

  • Insomnia and other sleep disturbances

  • Increased sensitivity to light and noise

  • Blurred or double vision

  • Irritability and mood swings

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)

  • Changes in taste and smell

  • Slowed cognitive processing
